  • ALS Center App is now available worldwide across mobile, web and desktop

    Patient-reported ALS disease-course data at a glance

The ALS Center App is now available worldwide – providing healthcare professionals and researchers at ALS centers with cross-platform access to patient-reported ALS disease-course data. The ALS Center App is available on the App Store and Google Play, as a web application, and as a desktop application for Windows and Linux computers.

The ALS Center App connects with patient-reported ALS disease-course data collected remotely through the ALS App. People with ALS can perform longitudinal self-assessments using the self-explanatory version of the ALS Functional Rating Scale-Revised (ALSFRS-R-SE). These assessments can be made available to the respective ALS center. Where available, neurofilament light chain (NfL) measurements can also be displayed alongside the functional data, providing complementary information on the individual disease course.

Structured data views for ALS centers

Using the ALS Center App, healthcare professionals can visualize patient-reported ALS disease-course data collected via the ALS App in a structured manner.

    • ALS Center dashboard: cumulative center-level information, including patient numbers, data completeness and assessment intervals, providing an overview of the patient-reported data available at the center.
    • Individual patient view: longitudinal ALSFRS-R-SE self-assessments, ALS progression information and, where available, repeated NfL measurements. Zoom and filter functions support focused and item-level review of the individual disease trajectory.

By bringing longitudinal functional assessments and, where available, biomarker information together in one environment, the ALS Center App supports reviewing and analyzing individual longitudinal disease progression over time in clinical and research settings.

Flexible access across devices and platforms

Users can select the access route that best fits their workflow, whether on a smartphone, through a web browser or on a Windows or Linux computer.

  • Updated ALS App Features and International Availability

The updated ALS App supports people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in documenting their disease course from home through structured digital self-assessment and the capture of ALS-related information. The App is available in English and now also offers Swedish and Finnish versions, supporting broader use across countries and research networks.

Selected features of the updated ALS-App displayed in English. The ALS-App is available on the App Store and Google Play.

    Key Offering:

The ALS App supports patients with ALS in longitudinal tracking of their disease course, self-documentation, and participation in ALS research.

    The key features include:

    • Self-assessment using the ALS Functional Rating Scale-Revised (ALSFRS-R-SE)
    • Display of disease trajectory with an ALSFRS-R-SE chart
    • Display of the biomarker Neurofilament Light chain (NfL) with the NfL chart (where available for study participants)
    • Scan function for documents such as doctors’ letters, reports, and other documents
    • Photo function for ALS-relevant images
    • Calculation of the Body Mass Index (BMI) by entering height and weight
    • Participation in surveys for ALS research

Together, these updated features and additional language versions enable remote digital self-assessments across countries, languages, and research networks.

  • Discover ALS-OPM.org: Your New Go-To Resource for ALS Phenotypes and the ALSFRS-R!

Discover ALS-OPM.org: Your New Go-To Resource for ALS Phenotypes and the ALSFRS-R!

We present ALS-OPM.org, a freely accessible resource webpage to support clinicians, researchers, and the broader ALS community by providing access to phenotype classification (ALS-OPM) and ALSFRS-R resources.

Clinicians and researchers working in ALS require resources that are accessible, scientifically current, and suitable for integration into routine practice and research workflows. This website aims to address these needs by offering a central hub for standardized ALS-OPM and ALSFRS-R-SE resources in multiple languages.

ALS-OPM.org: A New Hub for ALS-OPM and ALSFRS-R-SE resources. Scan the QR code to visit the website and access freely available resources.

    Key Offerings:

The website serves as a central hub for sharing standardized ALS-OPM and ALSFRS-R-SE resources, including an interactive PDF for direct digital data capture.

The ALS-OPM document center provides access to the recent ALS-OPM resources and their versions. The ALS-OPM resources support structured phenotype characterization, while the interactive PDF enables direct digital data capture.

The ALSFRS-R-SE document center provides access to the ALSFRS-R original and ALSFRS-R-SE versions. The self-explanatory version of the ALSFRS-R supports patient self-assessment, reducing the burden on the center and providing data between visits. The resources support their use across different clinical and research settings.

Together, these resources are intended to streamline workflows, improve precision, and reduce variation across sites and studies, both nationally and internationally.
